The Interim Management Committee of the NIger Delta Development Commission NDDC says the commission is properly positioned to render better services following the relocation of some staff to the permanent headquarters on Eastern by pass Port Harcourt.
The Acting Managing Director of the NDDC, Prof Kemebradikumo Pondei who addressed newsmen along with the Executive Director Projects, Dr Cairo Ojougboh on assumption of office at the new headquarters said the new headquarters would eliminate challenges associated with the old headquarters.
‘Some of the challenges include lack of office accommodation for staff, and frequent power outage’ he said.
The new headquarters, he explained will accommodate all the directorates and ensure regular power supply as the commission is now connected to the national grid with alternative power sources as back up to deliver its core mandate.
According to him, the movement to the new headquarters will be done in phases as he expressed optimism that sooner the 13 floor permanent headquarters will be completed and commissioned by President Buhari.
Pondei said that the relocation to the headquarters would not have been possible without the effort of President Buhari and the Niger Delta Minister, Godswill Akpabio.
NDDC was established on June 5 2000 by President Obasajo as an interventionist Agency to address the plight of the oil rich Niger Delta.
