The National Assembly has stopped plans by the Federal Government to hike Electricity Tarriffs from July 1st 2020. .
The leadership of the National Assembly has asked the Distribution Companies to defer the plan till the first quarter of 2023.
This is contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Special Adviser to the Senate President on Media and Publicity,Ola Awoniyi after a meeting of Principal Officers of the National Assembly, Senate Président, Ahmed Lawan, House Speaker, Femi Gbajiabiamila and other principal officers with Chief Executives of the government electricity regulatory body as well as discos across the country.
The National Assembly leaders said that the timing of the planned increase was wrong even though there was the need to review tariffs to meet the much needed investment.
On their part ,the discos admitted that they were not prepared for hike in tariff despite their desire to increase it.
The National Assembly leaders said they would meet with the President Buhari to brief him about the development.
