27 local government Chairmen and councils sacked by former Imo governor, Emeka Ihedioha have been reinstated by a Federal High Court in Imo State.
Delivering judgement on Wednesday, Justice Tijani Garba Ringim held that the dissolution of the council officials was wrong and ordered that the Imo State Government reinstate the sacked officials immediately.
Justice Ringim said the former governor had nothing right to dissolve local government officials elected by the people. .
He however warned that local government areas without elected officials should not be funded with the federal allocation.
Speaking to Newsmen afterwards, counsel to the plaintiffs, Oba Maduabuchi lauded the judgement describing it as historic.
He said From now onwards, any governor that attempts to dissolve elected local government officials will be doing that in vain because they will no longer get a penny from the federal allocation”
The council officials were elected during the administration of Governor Okorocha but were suspended in June last year by the Ihedioha administration.
They went to court in November 2019 to seek redress against Ihedioha joined the Federal Accounts Allocation Committee FAAC and the Attorney General of the Federation in the suit
Governor Uzodinma it was learnt also followed the suit on assumption of office and set up an Interim Management Committee to manage the affairs of the councils affected.
