The University of Calabar Teaching Hospital has said that 5 positive cases have been confirmed by the hospital through samples it collected and tested using the PCR technique at NCDC accredited laboratory.
The statement , contained in a memo dated July 3,2020 and signed by Professor Ikpeme A Ikpeme,Chief Medical Director of the University.said that the University performed covid-19 test on,5 samples and the result of the test showed that the samples tested positive for coronavirus.
Ikpeme said two of the samples came from the University’s medical staff and affected staff have made tremendous progress along the path of recovery and are doing well.
The tests were performed using the PCR technique at the NCDC accredited laboratory at Alex Ekwueme University Teaching Hospital,Abakaliki.
The Confirmation of 5 positive cases is coming barely a day after the Cross Rivers State Governor and his cabinet celebrated what they called Zero Covid-19 status of the state.
Cross Rivers State confirmed its index case on June 25,2020.
Current matters gathered that some soldiers transferred from Cross Rivers State to Sokoto also tested positive for coronavirus.
In May, , a nurse at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital,and another,were said to have presented symptoms of the virus while the nurse died in the hospital and all staff who attended to her were quarantined, the other, died in an undisclosed location.
