Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has sacked a Permanent Secretary,Sonny Okere for flouting and obstructing the enforcement of Covid-19 guidelines.
A statement signed by the Commissioner of Information and Communication,Paulinus Nsirim, said the decision was made by the governor in a statewide broadcast on Wednesday.
He said Okere chased away officials of the Ministry of Health, who went to Oyigbio to enforce the established guidelines on Public burials.
According to him, the action against the Permanent Secretary, would serve as a warning to other public officers.
He said ‘Burial ceremonies are also reportedly being conducted in clear breach of the 50 persons maximum attendance limit such that a serving Permanent Secretary bad the temerity to chasa sway officials of the State Ministry of Health who went to enforce the established guidelines on Public burials at Oyigbio’.
