The Interim Management Committee (IMC)of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) has accused some members of the National Assembly for being responsible for the state of the Commission due to large scale corruption perpetuated by them
The IMC said that the Chairman of the House of Representative’s Committee on the Niger Delta,Bunmi Tunji-Ojo inserted a training costs of whooping N6.4billion into the 2019 budget and vowed not to release the signed copy of the budget until 60percent (N3 8billion) of the money was released by the Commission.
The IMCr revealed that the lawmakers inflated a road repair work valued at N750million to N2.9billion in the 2019 budget of the Commission..
The Executive Director of Projects of the NDDC,Cairo Ojuougboh who made the accusation said that Senator Peter Nwaboshi also collected 1000 contracts to share among lawmakers
Ojuougboh said that previous chairmen of committees on the NDDC always injected new projects into the budget which is at variance with the budget of the Commission and the need of communitees
According to him, the training program which the Lawmaker injected at a cost of N6.4billion for which he needed 60 percent advance payment is yet to be executed
Reacting to the accusations made by Ojuougboh, The Chairman of the Senate Ad-hoc Committee investigating allegations of financial recklessness of the Interim Management Committee of the NDDC,Senator Olubunmi Adetumbi said that the panel was mandated to investigate the Interim Management Committee from October 2019 to the present adding that the activities of the NDDC before 2019 was under forensic audit ordered by President Buhari.
