A gang of seven armed robbers who were accused of robbing three banks in Ondo and Ekiti States have been arrested and paraded by the Police Force Headquarters, Abuja on Thursday.
The robbers were said to have killed six policemen and carted away millions of naira in their operations.
Parading the men at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, the Force Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, said the men carried out the robbery ia commercial bank in, Ile-oluji, Ondo State on 7th February,2020 were four policemen were killed.
Mba said that the men were also involved in the robberyi of a Microfinance bank in Idanre,Ondo State in December 2019 and a commercial bank at Oye Ekiti, Ekiti State where two policemen lost their lives.
He said’ Police operatives attached to the Special Tactical Squad have arrested a seven-man criminal gang that attacked and robbed three commercial banks in the South West States of Ondo and Ekiti between 2019 and 2020, killed innocent citizens including six policemen and carted away millions of naira.
‘ Investigation reveals that the date-devil armed robbers,Tubosun Ojo “m 42,years, lsmaila Ojo ‘m’ 26years, Victor Oyeyemi ‘m’ 36years,Dele Ariyo ‘m 44years,Shola Oladimeji ‘m’ 50years, Olubodun Folayemi,m’ 44years and Adeniyi John’ m’ 42years, carried out the robbery of a commercial bank in ile-oluji,Ondo State on 7th February 2020 where four policemen were killed.
‘Similarly they were also involved in the robbery of a Microfinance Bank in Idanre,Ondo State in December,2019 and a commercial bank at Oye Ekiti, Ekiti State where two policemen were lost their lives’.
23 other suspects were also paraded along with the 7armed robbers for their involvement in various crimes including armed robbery, Kidnapping, illegal possession of prohibited firearms car snatching at gunpoint among other Offences
The Force Public Relations Officer said ‘The following were recovered from the suspects. One Ak 49 rifle,One AK-47 rifle,two pump action guns,five locally made guns, nineteen locally made shortguns,125 cartridges,145Ak-47ammunition, locally fabricated explosives and a Toyota Corolla vehicle.The suspects will be charged to court on conclusion of investigation.’
