Nigeria’s Cattle Breeders Association, Miyetti Allah has asked the federal government to put the association in charge of security of the South east following reports of incessant killings of people living in the region.
Miyetti Allah said that the call has become very necessary to monitor activities of herdsmen in the south east.
The people of the South east had complained about the surge of herdsmen in the area with a mindset of occupation of lands, raping destruction of farmlands and killing indigenes of communities in the process.
Worried by the trend of killing, the South Eastern States met last year to find a lasting solution to the frequent clashes between herders and farmers to form a regional security group just as the Yorubas with the Amotekun, however nothing much has been heard of late regarding such proposition.
The Federal Government has also expressed concern for insecurity in the country as it has directed the law enforcement agencies to be on their guard and bring the situation under control.
