The National Assembly Service Commission on Wednesday relieved the Clerk of the National Assembly Mohammed Sani-Omolori and 148 others of their jobs following their attainment of retirement age.
The retirement of the National Assembly Workers was contained in a letter by the Commission.
The letter reads” Pursuant to its mandate as provided in the National Assembly Service ACT 2014(as amended), the National Assembly Service Commission on Wednesday,15th July 2020 has approved the retirement age of the staff of the National Assembly Service as 35years of service or 60years of age whichever comes first
“To this effect, the commission has approved the immediate retirement of the National Assembly staff who already attained the retirement age of 35 years of service or 60years of age.
“Retirement letters would be issued to the affected staff accordingly”
However, the development did not go down well with the affected staff of the National Assembly as the Clerk,Sani Omolori has said that the Commission had no right to retire them given the fact that the resolution that emowered the new age of 40years in service and 65 years of age has not been amended.
.
Sani-Omolori in a Statement in Abuja insisted that the retirement age remained 40years of service and,65 years of age as amended in 2019 by the National Assembly.
The National Assembly had in 2019 extended years of relevant of its workers through a resolution which gave five more years to those who have attained retirement age.
