Governors under the aegis of South South Governors Forum have condemned alleged attempted abduction of Joi Nunieh former Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC.
The governors have also thrown their weight behind the on going investigation of allegations of financial recklessness in the NDDC.
The chairman of the forum and governor of Delta State Dr Ifeanyi Okowa disclosed this in a statement in Asaba.
The statement expressed confidence on the forensic audit investigating the Commission saying it would reposition the NDDC in the path of sound corporate governance.
The forum believed that the Senate is operating within the oversight functions through the ad-hoc commitee set up for that purpose and urged “combatants in the current crisis in the NDDC to refrain from utterances and actions that will breach the peace and security of the region.”
The Statement added the governors desire to see an NDDC that is fully alive and responsive to its mandate of acceleratiing infrastructural development of the Niger Delta region and enhancing the general living conditions of the people of the Niger Delta saying that they would not hesitate to provide support to any policy initiative that would make it a reality.
Other members of the forum are Godwin Obaseki (Edo), Nyesom Wike (Rivers),Diri Douye, (Bayelsa),Ben Ayade(Cross Rivers) and Emmanuel Udom (Akwa Ibom).
