Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio has disclosed that the forensic audit of the Niger Delta Development Commission NDDC was propelled by the deplorable State of the NDDC since it was established 19years ago.
Akpabio said that Governors of the 9states of the NDDC were worried that the money spent on the Commission did not reflect on what is on ground, and decided to meet with President Buhari in October 2019.
“The nine governors met with Mr President in October 2019, and requested for forensic audit for the NDDC to find out why the child is a staunted child 19years after and why it has not achieved much and why the money that has been appropriated year in,year out, has gone to.’.
He said the President gave approval and delegated powers to him to appoint firms that would conduct forensic audit.
He said forensic auditors were divided into 10 slots,one International and others local.
According to him, while approval has been given for an international firm, the local auditing firms are still awaiting approval at the National Executive Council,NEC.
Akpabio discosed that the sum of N2.5billion was approved by the President for the forensic conduct while N318million approval has been given to lead consultants who have started work
“The forensic auditor for the Headquarters have started work and as soon as that started, hell was let loose as was expected,.No body should expect that after 19years, anybody would be happy to be audited”he said.
