Many people were seriously injured during a bloody confrontation of the Police with members of the Independent People of Biafra ( IPOB) and Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra
MASSOB in Imo State.
The incident was said to have taken place in the early hours of Friday at Orji,in Owerri North Council Area of the State when IPOB members from Imo State were waiting along the Orji/Okigwe road to receive the corpse of a member,Onyekachukwu Uzoma, who died in Enugu.
It was gathered that the clash led to exchange of gunfire which led to many sustaining injuries.
In a statement, the IPOB Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful said members of the IPOB family were waiting to receive the corpse of their late member being conveyed from Enugu to Mbaise his home town when Police shot at the members leaving many of them with different degrees of injuries
He said” Nigerian Police and Army have started once again pushing us to the wall.IPOB is not happy how Nigerian Government are killing Biafrans and other christians in Nigeria.
“We are warning Nigerian Government and her security operatives to stop attacking IPOB because they will regret their actions soon “He said
The Imo State Police Public Relations Officer, Orlando Ikeokwu said the
MASSOB members mounted road block and the Police was trying to restore normalcy
According to him, the group also attacked a team of policemen attached to Orji Division along Owerri/Okigwe Road by the Orji Flyover.
Ikeokwu further explained that the hoodlums while trying to dispossess the Policemen of their service rifles , also inflicted machete wounds on the policemen ,adding that the attack was successfully repelled with arrest made while some others ran away with various degree of injuries.
