Members of Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists who do not see any difference in what the leadership of the two terrorists group preach and the Nigerian government have parted ways with their leaders and surrendered with their families to the Multi National Joint Task Force MNJTF.
According to MNJTF, the reasons for the mass surrender include failure to actualise the goals of offering followers better opportunities, for self actualisation and establishment of a caliphate in the Sahel especially within the MNJTF area of operation along with power tussle among the top echelon and ethnic differences are reasons for the mass surrender of the terrorists.
In a statement on Monday the MNJTF said that a member of the group who participated in most operations in areas such as Gamboru Ngala,Chikun Gudu,Fotokoi and others expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of progress in the jihad, attributing the failure to lust for material things.
He was quoted as saying “ They told us that we are being lied to and cheated by apostate governments, but I have not seen any difference between Shekau and those he has been condemning, He may even be worse”
He confessed that they are having a better life since they came out of the bush as they were being fed and catered for.
The MNJTF statement further captured revelations about ethnic inequities and abuse of women.
One of the surrendered terrorist said “if you do not speak a particular language, you can not be appointed as Commander or made a guard in the bush, he also said that you cannot even be allowed to go for tav collection.”
A female surrendered terrorist also said that no woman should find herself in the situation she recently escaped from.
She said ” Those people are ungodly,so they cannot tell the world that they are doing the will of Allah”.
The MNJTF urged communities to accept repentant terrorists back after their rehabilitation even though some of them had perpetrated heinous crimes. It said such a gesture by Communities will go a long way in the continuing efforts to defeat terrorism and build peace in the Lake Chad Basin.
