A police officer, Hosea Yakubu was on Sunday August 16,2020, allegedly tortured by 4 soldiers at Eleme petrochemical gate in Rivers State.
Yakubu 41, and father of 3 and attached to the IGP Anti-pipeline,Port Harcourt, and two other officers were coming back from their normal patrol duties, and due to heavy traffic on Eleme road,,they decided to take one way,
It was gathered that on getting to the petrochemical company gate, there were long trucks coming out from the company at the same time.Someone on mufti,not knowing he is a military man stopped and challenged them for taking one way.This led to argument and the military man slapped the driver of the police vehicle.
The deceased on seeing the police driver beaten,came down from the vehicle to challenge the soldier,other soldiers came out to join the fray.
In the course of the fight,one of the soldiers was said to have picked up a heavy plank and smashed Hosea on the head, he fell down and couldn’t move again.
The fight ended as he became motionless He was rushed to the nearest hospital for treatment and subsequently transferred to the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital UPTH,where he was admitted at the intensive care unit.
Hosea reportedly died 24, hours later.Hosea’s brother who gave the narrative said one week after the incident, no action had been taken by the police or the military to bring the culprits to hook.
