One feared dead and two injured during the Peoples Democratic party PDP Cross Rivers North Senatorial Bye-election primary in Ogoja.
Journalists and delegates who were at the venue for the event were reportedly teargassed by armed Policemen numbering over 200, wounding two people in the process.
It was gathered that two persons suspected to be supporters of one of the Senatorial aspirant for the primary,Jarigbe were killed on the eve of the election
However, despite the alleged violence, a candidate has emerged to fly the party’s flag in the October 31 Senatorial bye-election in the state.
Dr Stephen Odey,a former chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board,(SUBEB) was declared winner having polled a total of 450 votes to beat his closest rival and member of the House of Representatives, Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe.,who polled 90 votes.
The Independent Electoral Commission ( INEC ) had fixed 12 State and National Assembly elections for October 31, 2020.
Six of the bye-elections are to fill in Senatorial seats that became vacant as a result of deaths of former occupants and Dr Duoye Diri who represented Bayelsa Central and became governor of Bayelsa State.
