In what appears to be a swipe at the presidency over its attack on former President, Olusegun Obasanjo ,on his comments on Nigeria moving towards a failed state, Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka, said he supports calls for attention of the nation sliding towards extinction..
According to him, there is a strong evidence that the nation is divided as never before and that the division which has reached alarming state is taking place under the policies and watch of President Buhari.
” Does anyone deny that it was the President who went to sleep while communites were consistently ravaged by cattle marauders , were raped and displaced in their thousands and turned into beggars all over the landscape?
” Was it a different President who,on being finally pursuaded to visit a scene of carnage, had nothing more authoritative to offer than to advise the traumatised victims to learn to live peacefully with their violators?
“The nation is divided as never before. This ripping division has taken place under the policies and conduct of none other than President Buhari- does that claim belong in the realms of speculation?
He said while he is no fan of Obasanjo and has no reason to change his stance on his record,,he aligns with him in the responsibility of drawing attention to the nation that is on the brink of total collapse
” I embrace the responsibility of calling attention to any accurate reading of the nation from whatever source as a contraption teetering on the very edge of total collapse.
” We are close to extinction as a viable country of peoples supposedly bond together under an equittable set of protocols of co-habitation capable of providing it’s own means of existence and devoid of a culture of sectarian privilege and will to dominate” he said.
