A colonel and two soldiers have been killed in a military offensive against Bandits in Unguwar Doka village,Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State, on Thursday.
A statement issued by Brigadier General Bernard Onyeuko, Acting Director, Defence Media Operations and made available to the press said that troops on a clearance operation against criminals across the North West zone on Thursday,got Information on bandits’ attack in Unguwar Doka village Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State.
He said operatives of Operation SAHEL SANITY, swiftly responded and mobilised to the general area.
Onyeuko said the troops successfully cleared the village of the marauders to the admiration of the locals and that during the encounter, the troops successfully neutralised 21 bandits while others escaped with gunshot wounds into the forest as the trails of blood along the path of the crimnnals revealed.
According to him, the troops successfully rescued 3 kidnapped victims including an 8 months old baby who have been in the custody of the bandits for more than 23 days as he also disclosed that the brave soldiers also in their encounter, recovered one AK -47 rifle one AK-47 magazine and five motorcycles from the fleeing bandits.
He however expressed regret that one gallant offficer and two soldiers paid the supreme sacrifice while two other soldiers were wounded and are receiving treatment in a military medical facility.
The statement said the military are giving the crimnnals no respite as they have dominated a greater portion of the forest where they pursued the criminals to and urged the troops not to relent untill the region is completely rid of all criminal elements.
While he assured of the safety of lives and property, he encouraged Nigerians to give timely and credible information.
