Nigerians doing business in Ghana have called on President Buhari to help in resolving their problem with the Ghanaian authorities which borders on arbitrary payments of levies.
Speaking with newsmen on Skype, the Vice President of the Nation’al Union of Traders in Ghana (NUTAG), Kizito Obiora said Nigerians are suffering and dying in their numbers as there shops have been locked by the ghanaian government for more than 8 months.
He noted that there were high level talks going on between the two countries but said something has to be done fast as nothing has changed instead the conditions of Nigerians are getting worse by the day.
He said” Instead of this let government come and evacuate us let us go back to Nigeria.
“Let government persuade the Ghana government to open the shops while they continue with negotiation . At the end of the day Iam very very sure that whatever the outcome will be, the fault will not be from us.
” So in my opinion instead of us being stranded here and before you know it it will result in another thing as some people cannot feed their families again.Instead of that let government find solution for us but if government cannot help us, the least they can do is to come and evacuate us because we are suffering” he said
The ill-treatment of Nigerians by ghanaian government had made the Speaker of the House of Representatives ,Femi Gbajabiamala, to go to Ghana on a fact finding mission with the aim of finding solution to the problem
Similarly, the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo had while on a trip to Ghana recently, for ECOWAS Summit on behalf of the President Buhari, used the occasion to meet with the Nigerian community to identify their problem with the assurance that the Nigerian government would see to its speedy resolution.
Months have passed and the problems remain unsolved.
