The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has suggested a presidential-Parliamentary system of government to prevent a break of the country.
Adeboye stated this in a symposium organised by the RCCG and the Nehemiah leadership Institute to celebrate Nigeria’s diamond independence anniversary.
He said there was the need to look at the look at the problems of the nation in a manner that would be acceptable to all parts of the country.
According to him, the clamour for break up is not the solution to the problem as there still exists windows for dialogue on restructructing that should be explored quickly before the country fall to pieces.
The clergyman said the mixed system of government reminiscent of the first Republic might be the tonic needed to solve the problems of the country.
“I believe that frankly,we might need to look at the problem of Nigeria in a slightly different manne because some people feel that all our problems will be over if Nigeria should break up .I think that is trying to solve the problem of Nigeria as if it is a simple question problem.”
“We all know that we must restructure. It is either we restructure or we break. You don’t have to be a prophet to know that one.”
“Why don’t we have a president and a Prime Minister? If the president controls the Army and the Prime Minister controls the police, or the President controls resources like oil and mining, and the prime minister controls finance and inland revenue, taxes and custom, just to divide responsibilities vis-a-vis in such a manner that one cannot really go all alone without the other, maybe, this is just the mathematical suggestion.Maybe ,we might begin to tackle the problem.”
“And if we are going to adopt this model, then we would need urgently to restore what we used to call the House of Chiefs.”he said
