Governors under the aegis of Northern Governors Forum have distanced themselves from calls for complete disbandment of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad SARS.
The Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Plateau State ,Simon Lalong ,who disclosed this to State House Correspondents after meeting with President Buhari in Abuja said that the issue of SARS varies from state to state
According to him, the disbanded squad had been useful in the fight against Insecurity in the region and called on the president to look into the issue.
Lalong said not all SARS operatives were bad as there were still a good number of them performing their constitutional functions very well.
He said rather than ‘throwing the baby with the bath water, ‘what was needed was reformation of SARS in such a way that even those who are bad could be transformed and made to do their jobs.
The Plateau governor wondered why the same SARS that are portrayed as bad by some regions would appear to be very useful in others arguing it might not be unconnected to the behavior of the people.
