EndSars enters third week with tales of arson, jail break as covener reportedly exits
The protests against police brutality has taken a new turn as it entered the third week.
On Sunday, the covener,Segun Awosanya opted out as he claimed that the movement originally conceived and successfully delivered have been hijacked by “known elements’
While he urged those with genuine interest to continue with the advocacy, the rights activist advised government to be on track as he explained that “what is playing out is the failure of society as a whole.We are all to blame.This illustrates the danger of the lack of social contract with the people. Opportunists will always exploit their vulnerability.
The protests are going on today (Monday October 19) in major cities.
In Abuja, plan by#EndSars protesters to occupy AYA round about,Nyanya,Karu,Karshi Jikwoyi,Masaka residential areas of most civil servants met a dead end as soldiers were deployed to man all those areas thus forcing the protesters to shift base to Gudu and other locations.
Protesters had Sunday camped overnight at the Central Bank of Nigeria headquarters in advancement of their protest against Police brutality.
In Lagos, Protesters have blocked major roads.Most offices are shut including governmen offices.Workers and school children are said to have gone back to their homes.
In Edo, the government has imposed a 24 hour curfew across the state till further notice as hoodlums are said to have hijacked the peaceful protest and burnt 3 police stations, attacked correctional center and freed prisoners.
A senior civil servant, Ignatius, who spoke with current matters in Abuja lauded the efforts of the#EndSars advocacy but warned that it would be suicidal for the protests to degenerate to a level where every Nigerian will regret.
He said’ Yes I agreed with the philosophy of the movement but I am not in support of the soldiers who are supposed to fight terrorists to man roads.It will make the terrorists-to overun the country.
