The President who spoke in a nation-wide broadcast Thursday, reaffirmed his position that citizens were free to protest since it was their fundamental rights to do so as enshrined in Section 41 of the constitution but warned that their expression of rights must respect the rights of others within the confines of the law..
He however frowned at the wanton destruction of properties across the country including the vandalisation of the palace of the Oba of Lagos, and the international airport thereby disturbing the peace of fellow Nigerians and visitors
The President regretted the volume of falsehood spread in the social media and said his government is not only transparent but priotised the welfare of its citizens particularly the youths and most vulnerable in societg which is why it initiated a number of programmes intended to lift at least 100 thousand Nigerians out of poverty
This include the N75 billion Youth Investment Fund,, N-Power and Trader.Moni adding that no Nigerian government had treated the poverty issue like what his administration had done.
Buhari stated that the Police Service Commission PSC had been directed to expedite action on the new salary scheme and other entitlements for the Police Force.He restated that in recognition of the importance of Education and the role teachers play, his governmet had approved a new salary structure for teachers.
The President reaffirmed the commitment of the federal government to preserve the unity of the country and said it would continue to ensure that the rights of citizens as well as their lives and property.are protected.
He urged the protesters to take advantage of the numerous programmes of the administration designed to make their lives better and resist the temptation of being used by unscrupulous members of the society to cause chaos and truncate Nigeria’s nascent democracy and warned that under no circumstances would such acts be tolerated.
