NDLEA intercepts,13.55 kilogrammes of cannabis from student at Abuja Airport
A twenty three year-old student of Tourisim and Hotel Management at the Near East University, Cyprus has been apprehended by the Special Area Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) , Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja.
The suspect, Sunday Odi from Ebonyi State, was stopped at the departure hall of the airport while attempting to board a Turkish airlines flight to Northern Cyprus enroute Istanbul.
According to Jonah Achema,Head Public Relations, NDLEA, during a search of Odi’s luggage containing food condiments, some dried weeds which tested positive for Cannabis Sativa were found concealed in dried hibiscus flowers.
The drugs wrapped in little quantities were stuffed in empty bottles which were cut apart for the wraps to enter and then sealed back with a label” Wonder Bitter Root”
The NDLEA official however said the suspect denied knowledge of the contents of the bag as he claimed the bags belonged to one Emmanuel Ihebekwe who was instrumental to his University admission.
Odi said Ihebekwe ,who had been his friend for many years before he travelled to Cyprus,had told him to come along with foodstuff and malaria drugs contained in two “Ghana must go bags.” which he (Ihebekwe) asked someone from Lagos to bring to him in Nnewi to take along with him to Cyprus and that he did not know that” he had the intention of finishing his life”
