IGP Adamu bemoans #EndSARS mayhem on Police,gives officers licence to self defence
The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu ,has said that no amount of provocation and insult would make the police abandon their responsibilities.
Adamu who was on assessment tour of police formations in the Federal Capital Territory FCT Abuja on Friday ,said that the unity of the country lies in the support given to police officers as not doing so might demolarise them and criminals would take advantage of the situation and occupy the public space.
The IGP’ whose tour was informed by the#EndSARS carnage on the Force’s personnel and facilities, disclosed that 22 police officers were killed and 205 police stations across the country set ablaze by hoodlums who hijacked the peaceful protests.
He said as human beings, his men have the right to protect themselves against situations that exposed their lives to danger and praised them for exhibiting exceptional conduct in maintaining law and order as well as protecting lives and property during the#EndSaRS protest even in the face of intimidation
“When we talk of human rights, the police are humans, so the rights of police officers would also be protected”
” If anyone assaults you, you can protect yourselves “he said.
He said those who died during the protest would be adequately compensated for their selfless service to the nation..
