The President of Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs( NSCIA) ,Sa’ad Abubakar 111, Sultan of Sokoto has called for the arrest of Bishop Godfrey Onah of Nsukka Catholic Diocese for inciting sermons that led to attacks of moslems in Nsukka, Enugu State.
The Moslem leader in a petition to the Inspector General of Police Mohammed Adamu and the Department of State Services DSS said “some christian bigots unleashed violent and virulent attack on Muslims in Nsukka and burnt their Mosques as a result of a hateful and inciting sermon full of lies and fallacies, delivered by one Bishop Reverend Father, Godfrey Igwebuike Onah.’
The NSCIA implores the security agency to urgently apprehend the Bishop for “his hate speech, inciting sermon of lies fabricated to provoke hatred for Muslims”
However, the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria,HURIWA,has asked the Sultan
to “stop playing god to achieve his unholy plans”
The group’s National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko condemned the petition against Bishop Onah and accused the Sultan of inciting and threatening Christianity by his ‘unholy petition’
The group asked the IGP to dismiss the Sultan’s petition warning that failure to do so will force it to consider the option of seeking legal redress in a court of competent jurisdiction.
The Enugu State Government had codemned the attacks and promised to rebuild the affected Mosques for Muslims in the state.
