Joseph Biden is set to make a date with history as the oldest President-elect of the most powerful nation of the world.
Biden is 77 years old.He will be 78 on November 20. His political rival Donald Trump was the oldest at 70 in American Presidential history when he was President-elect in 2016.
Biden is only a few hours away from being declared winner of the presidential election having obtained 253 electoral votes out of the 270 required by law and leading his challenger and incumbent President,Trump in key battleground states of Pennsylvania, Georgia, Arizona and Nevada.
Biden’s lead in the Common Wealth of Pennsylvania is the last thing the Republicans expected .They had hinged their hope on votes from Georgia Arizona Nevada and Pennsylvania but with the former Vice President in the lead of those states, the die is cast for Trump whose rejection in the deciding key states is not unconnected to his racial inclination, his poor handling of the coronavirus, his hard stance on climate change and the economy.
Trump had said he would not concede defeat but will fight on as he alleged irregularities in the election . However, observers said Trump had by his claim of electoral fraud introduced a dimension that ridicled the age long democracy so cherished in the world.
The President’s children are also by their tweets asking Republicans to rise up and reject the votes directly calling for anarchy in the country.
Current matters learnt that a good number of Republicans are neither in agreement with Trump’s allegations nor his lack of sportsmanship in defeat.
For now,all eyes are on Biden’s impressive lead in Pennsylvania, Arizona, Nevada and Georgia Should he win Pennsylvania,he would have exceeded the electoral votes with 3 digits whereas if he is declared winner in Georgia, Arizona and Nevada, they elevate his votes to 306 which is same number that earned Trump victory over Hillary Clinton in 2016..
Biden is also making history as the first candidate to have popular votes as much as over 70 million.
