The Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its position that it was invited by the government of Lagos State to restore law and order in the wake of the the#EndSARS protests
Brigadier General, Ahmed Taiwo, the Commander 81 Military Intelligence Brigade, Victoria Island,Lagos who disclosed this at the Lagos Judicial Panel of Enquiry and Restitution for Victims of SARS related abuses and other matters said the governor had called the military to help in enforcing order citing the withdrawal of the police from the streets
The Army expressed dismay that the governor lied against it and asked if its men could have come from the moon or other planet to arrest the unrest if they were not officially invited.
Taiwo also said the Army evacuated more than N2billion cash belonging to banks affected by violence and looting during the #EndSARS protest
Recall that the Army’s involvement came after#EndSARS protesters defied the Lagos government’s 24 hour curfew imposed across the state and gathered at the Lekki and Alausa protest grounds in the evening of Tuesday , October 20,2020, where they were reportedly attacked by soldiers and policemen from the Rapid Response Squad Unit.
The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-olu, perhaps for fear of the#EndSARS protesters denied inviting the military on the protesters. It was a situation of confusion as no one claimed responsibllity of the attacks on the protesters at first . There were speculations that hoodlums dressed in Army camouflage could have fired shots at the protesters.
