Nasarawa Government,suspends Local Government officials over inflation of salary figures
Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state has approved the suspension of all Directors of personnel Management DPMs and Directors of Finance and Supplies ( DFS) over inflation of salary figures.
The suspension order was announced on Monday by the spokesman of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftancy Affairs,Adamu Shigafarta .
According to him, the directive came through the Local Government Service Commission and will affect the DPMs and DFS of the 18 development areas of the state. for a period of three months
Shigafarta said the council officials were suspended because they refused to work with a commitee set up by the government to investigate the discrepancies and high wage bills incured by the local governments.
He explained that local government workers were audited over some anomalies and decided to use the 2012 payment voucher and discovered that the salaries skyrocketed from N1.1 billion paid in 2012 to N1.3 billion in 2020 despite the fact that there were no employment and promotions and there were deaths, retirement and even cases of people leaving for greener pastures during the period under review
The Spokesman added that the government had directed all councis to pay salaries using the 2012 voucher but the directors of finance and supplies are said to have declined which prompted the decision of their suspension by the government
