The Federal Government has said that the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), is not exempted from enrolling in the Integrated Payroll and Personal Information System (IPPIS) platform
A statement issued by the Minister of Labour and Employment,Dr Chris Ngige in Abuja on Saturday, said governmentt position on the IPPIS payment platform remains the same as there was no meeting where it was agreed that ASUU would be exempted from the IPPIS.
Ngige said governmentt was quoted out of context as it was agreed in the meeting with ASUU that its members who were yet on IPPIS would be paid through the platform with which they were paid the President’s compassionate Covid-19 payment done to them between the months of February and June.
The Minister said “the platform is a hybrid platform between Government Integrated Financial Management and Information System ( GIFMIS) , President Buhari’s compassionate Covid-19 payment in the months of February and June.”
According to him, the IPPIS and the ( GIFMIS) would be used for payment of the ASUU members within the transition period while the University Transparency and Accountability Solution ( UTAS) undergoes all the integrity test required for use.
On the new offer on allowances and revitalization funding for public universities, the Minister said there is a commitee on that and the committee is working on sourcing new education funds. He explained that the lecturers have the option to either choose N25 billion revitalization plus N40billion earned allowances or revitalization of N30billion and N35 billion earned allowances adding that ASUU’s demand of N110 billion representing a tranche of N220billion was unacceptable as the government said it does not have that kind of money
