As Local Government Council election in Borno holds today,it has been confirmed that 38 persons including two university Professors are vying for position of chairman.
The election which is being conducted by the Borno State Independent Electoral Commission ( BOSIEC) is coming for the first time in 13 years for the 27 local government councils in the state.
The councils have been run by caretaker commitees appointed by the state governors since the last elections in April 2012.
BOSIEC Executive Director,Abdu Usman, told Journalists during a Press conference at his office in Maiduguri that a total of 38 candidates from various political parties would be contesting for chairmanship and 316 wards councillors in the election.
According to Usman,18 of the 27 local councils had unopposed candidates fielded by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) an indication that polls will only be conducted in eleven local government councils
He said electionwill begin at 8am in all 5, 012 polling units and voting will end at 2pm while Internally Displaced Persons ( IDP)camp in four local government areas comprising Abadam,Marte,Kukawa and Guzamala will not be disenfranchised as elections will also hold in those areas
