Nigerian troops on Monday, found 35 more bodies of victims of Saturday’s attack in Zabarmari area of Borno State.
The newly discovered corpses which were said to be decomposing bring the total number of deaths accounted for to 78.
Earlier on Sunday, the 43 farmers who were working on rice farms were buried amid tears and the event attended by the state governor, Babagana Zulum.
The new batch of 35 bodies were reportedly discovered by troops and operatives of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).
The United Nations had put Saturday’s casualty figure at over 110.
Edward Kallon, the United Nations Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria who also said many were injured, described the killing as outrageous and horrifying.but the Nigerian Army insisted that only 43 people died in the gruesome attack..
Arny spokesman, Major- General John Enenche had explained that” the field commanders he contacted gave him a synopsis of what happened,”
“When the governor was to go ( to the scene) and after they had recovered the dead, the troops had to move in there and they counted 43” he said
Meanwhile Some Nigerians have expressed fear over the killing of farmers saying it is a threat to food security in the country.
They therefore urged an immediate military action against the terroriss to avert a repeat of Saturday’s massacre in Borno State.
