The North East Governors have called on the Federal Government to employ the services of mercenaries to combat terrorism in the region following Saturday’s massacre at Koshobe village by Boko Haram terrorists.
Speaking on Tuesday on behalf of governors from the zone during a condolence visit to the governmentt and people of Borno State , the governor of Taraba State, Darius Ishaku, said the governors are in support of the recommendations made by Borno Governor, Babagana Zulum on how to win the war against Boko Haram terrorists and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
Ishaku said the time has come for the federal government to engage mercenaries to help the region out of terrorism” because what you cannot do, you cannot solve’
According to him, the region cannot continue to be mourning adding” there has to be a time to stop mourning”
The governor also drew the attention of the federal government to the Infrastructure deficit in the region and said that it is embarrassing that the region has an allocation of 0 35 percent in the budget despite the lingering problems of insurgency and other burning issues.
He called on the federal government to as a matter of urgency, look at the issue of Mambilla hydropower project without which he noted ,there would be no meaningful development in the region.
