
A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of defunct pension chairman, Abdulrasheed Maina in Kuje Correctional Center pending the determination of his trial.
Justice Okon Abang gave the order at the resumed hearing on Friday.
The Counsel to Maina,Adaji Abel formally withdrew from the case.The new counsel engaged by Maina prayed the court for adjournment to enable him study the facts of the case.
Justice Abang subsequently granted the request for adjournment and fixed December 8 for continuation of trial
According to him, the adjournment was based on the fact that the defendant who is presumed innocent is entitled to legal representation .
Maina was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC and arraigned before a Federal High Court in Abuja for alleged N2BILLION fraud.
He was granted bail with a surety but abused the bail privileges by escaping to neighbouring Niger Republic where he was arrested by a combined security team including Nigerien , Nigerian Police Force and INTERPOL and was extradited to the country on Thursday.
