The Minister of Labour and Employment,Dr Chris Ngige has accused the Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities ASUU, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, of lying to Nigerians that the government agreed to pay all withheld salaries before it would call off strike.
Ngige on Tuesday, in a statement said the ASUU agreed to call off strike before December 9 at the last meeting it had with the governmentt team on November 27.
The Minister stated that the call off of the 9 – month- old industrial action by ASUU on December 9 as agreed was to receive a corresponding presidential waiver for the academic union to be paid the remainder of their salaries on or before the 9th of December
Ogunyemi had blamed the Federal Government for ASUU’S failure to return to the classroom stressing that the Union would not call off strike until their outstanding salary arrears were paid.
