Zamfara Governor, Matawalle facilitated release of Kankara boys – aide
The Special Adviser to the Zamfara State governor, Zailani Bappa has said that the State Governor , ,Bello Matawalle facilitated the release of the 344 students of Government Science Secondary School Kankara in Katsina State .
The Governor whose state had its fair share of banditry and all forms of criminal acts during the previous administration in the state, found dialogue as the best option for peace in the state.
Matawalle had said several times that without dialogue no meaningful development can take place even as he urged his colleagues to allow dialogue for peace to reign in their states.
Zamfara borders Katsina, Sokoto and Kaduna states and for fear of repeat of the Kankara college incident, the government ordered the closure of 10 secondary schools located around the border communites.
Gunmen had last Saturday night stormed the Science Secondary School Kankara and kidnapped more than 300 students from the school.
The boys were reportedly transported through the bushes to the border area between Katsina and Zamfara State. and made to eat leaves and polluted water according to an account of one of the boys who escaped from the abductors.
As of Thursday night,”They are being transported to Gusau, the Zamfara State Capital via Tsafe and will leave for Katsina tommorow” Bappa said
The release of the boys generated positive reactions from Nigerians as most of them cut across age, ethnic and religious groups see it as a welcome development
Elfrida, who recently graduated from secondary school said” Iam happy,at least governmentt has done something really good for the first time.but Iam not happy that most of the Chibok girls haven’t been found yet.’
Mustapha,a security guard who always cling to his transistor radio said, God has done something wonderful and prayed that there won’t be a repeat of such incident in the north or in any part of the country.
He thanked the Zamfara State governor for the bold step and said ” by facilitating the release of the boys,i he has put smiles on the faces of the parents, the school and the entire Katsina State.”
