Two neighbouring communites, Aguleri and Umueri in Anambra East Local Government Area on Saturday, renewed their age -long crisis.
According to a statement by the state Police Command, “the crisis erupted over a disputed area of land which both communites were laying claim to ownership”
The statement issued by the police spokesman, Haruna Mohammed said although no lives were lost, the warring parties razed a building and destroyed four vehicles and two motorcycles.
Mohammed said the command acted immediately on receiving a distress call and dispatched Joint Police teams comprising PMF/RRS and other conventional units led by Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations, Salman Dogo,in collaboration with other security agencies to the area .
Mohammed disclosed that the police team has brought the situation under control and joint patrol was still ongoing to restore peace in the area adding that the Commissioner of Police,John Abang has ordered discreet Investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the crisis and bring perpetrators to justice.
Meanwhile the state governor,Willie Obiano has imposed a 3 day curfew in the crisis communites.
