The Minister of Communication and Digital Economy,Dr Isa Patami has ordered the immediate closure of the National Identity Management Commission( NIMC), headquarters in Abuja, over fears of Covid-19 pandemic
NIMC Spokesman, Kayode Adegoke told reporters on Saturday, that the minister had reactivated 20 other centres in the Federal Capital Territory ( FCT) which are expected to become functional on Monday.
The development according to him was to ensure a hitch-free enrollment for applicants.
The order comes just 3 days to the end of the exercise for those with the National Identity Number(NIN) to link such with their SIMs.
The Federal Government in December 2020, fixed January 19 as deadline for the exercise.
