Tension inTaabaa community in Khana Local Government Area of Rivers State as two factions claiming right to chieftaincy stool clashed on Saturday morning.
It was gathered that the crisis was triggered by the coronation on Saturday of a distant relation to the heir of the chiefdom years after the death of the community chief, Chief Vincent K. Nee ue.
The community was without chief. aka MENE ASAA. The heir Mr prosper Pia Gbara Nee ue and Mr. Nte Naa le Aweka have been at each others jugular before today.
On the second of January 2021, at the town square, the Gbenemene Bua-Baa His royal highness ,MENE KABARI NULE, reportedly gave the communities and her king makers until the end of January 2021, to install a chief in the community.
Current matters learnt that while preparations were underway for the son of the late chief,Prosper to ascend his father’s throne, his challenger,Aweka was crowned the Mene Asaa( chief) by the kingmakers . The development forced Prosper and his faction to storm the town square,, venue of the installation to stop the ceremony but were too late as the installation formalities had already been performed. This resulted in heavy fighting which attracted the attention of the police to the community to restore law and order.
The Divisional Police Officer D. P .O in charge of BORI Division, Sp,Bako Angbashim and his men arrived the village in good time shooting in the air to dusperse the villagers and guests who scampered to safety .
As of the time of filing the report,a source in Taabaa disclosed that the village square is deserted and members of the community have remained indoors unsure of what they would face if they leave their homes.
