Nigerian scientists validate potency of plant as alternative treatment for covid ailments
Scientists in the University of Ibadan have identified a plant called Eurphobia hirta as alternative to treat covid related diseases.
The researches listed some of the disesases that can be cured by the plant to include respiratory failures,dry cough, and fever.
Lead researchers,Prof. Rasheed Awodoyin and Prof.Ademola Ladele, said the plant, Euphorbia hirta,was commonly called Asthma plant.
Awodoyin,a weed ecologist, however noted that the plant known as Asun Uloko in Edo,Ba,Ala in Ibo,Akun Esan in Yoruba,Monon Kurciya in Hausa and its efficacy confirmed by renowned Nigerian scientists can be boiled and taken as tea to serve as a first aid treatment for dry cough.
He noted that the researchers were inspired by shared information that mucus plug of the airways and nasal chamber among others were the causes of seizure and death from Covid-19.
He added that the Ashma plant tea though not recommended for pregnant women is safe as it has no toxicity in humans It is believed to soften dry cough and ,release the mucus as phlegm
The potency of the plant has yet to be ascertained by the National Agency For Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
