The Vice Chancellor, Federal University Gusau, Prof. Magaji Garba has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC over alleged N260miliion contract scam.
A source af the anti- graft agency who disclosed this to newsmen in Abuja on Monday said that the VC sometime in 2018, fraudulently obtained the sum of N260 million from a contractor,Alhaji Shehu Sambo,owner of Ministaco Nigeria Limited.
Garba was alleged to have collected the money on the pretext that the University was going to award his company a contract worth three billion Naira for the construction of a ” perimeter wall fence” around the institution.but the contract did not materialize.
The source said ” he was detained by the agency on Thursday,Jan28,after he honoured an invitation in retaliation to his involvement in a case of abuse of office, corrupt practices and contract scam.
“The VC is still being interrogated by the EFCC investigators who are keen on knowing what happened to the money.” the source said.
The Spokesman of the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed the arrest to newsmen but gave no details.
