The Kaduna State Government said suspected bandits have killed 19 persons on Saturday in Birnin Gwari and Kajuru Local of Areas of the state.
The Commissioner of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan confirmed the attack in a statement on Sunday in Kaduna.
Aruwan said “the citizens were killed by bandits at Kutemeshi village in Birnin Gwari and Kujeni village in Kajuru where several others were left with bullet sounds.Both attacks occurred on Saturday.”
He said some shops were looted and valuable goods carted away and disclosed that some of the injured were moved to a neighbouring state closer to Kutemeshi for urgent medical attention while others are in transit to an orthopedic hospital in Kaduna.
He said the corpses of 14 victims have been recovered from Kutemeshi and assured that the government wouldl provide updates on any emerging developments
Aruwan said” In Kujeni village of Kajuru LGA, the attackers burnt several houses stores with foodstuff, warehouses loaded with building materials and a church.
The Commissioner said Gov. Nasir El-Rufai, who has been monitoring the security situation at the locations since Saturday morning expressed sadness over the attacks.
The Governor has also directed the Kaduna State Emergency Agency to urgently provide relief materials to the affected communites.
Aruwan added that the government and security agencies are following up on a reported attack on Sunday morning around Kikwari village of Kajuru LGA, and will also provide an update as soon as feedback was received.
