President Muhammadu Buhari has pledged that the Federal Government would support massive investments in Lagos State to boost its economic potential.
Buhari made the pledge on Tuesday in a virtual goodwill message during the Lagos Economic Summit ( Ehingbetti),2021 with the theme” For a Greater Lagos: Setting the Tone for the Next Decade.”
The President said his administration will support Lagos to overcome its challenges peculiar to the nation,in order to thrive economically and socially.
According to him, his administration recognised Lagos as central to the economic fortune’s of Nigeria and had in the past few years demonstrated commitment to supporting the state to unleash its full socio- economic potential.
He listed support given to Lagos to include the Special Funding approved in 2020 in acknowledgement of the state being an epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic in the country, the Social Investment Programme, the Economic Sustainability Plan among others.
Buhari also said that the Presidential Infrastructure Development Fund is investing in the reconstruction of the Lagos- Ibadan expressway, while the Apapa – Oshodi- Oworonshoki Expressway is a flagship project of the Federal Government Road Infrastructure Tax Credit Scheme,. also known as Executive Order 7 of 2016.
He said the Federal Government granted approval for rebuilding of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road while it is” completing the Standard Gauge Railway Line linking Lagos- Ibadan with connection to Abuja and Kano.
The President described Lagos State as a megacity that boldly occupies its place in the global standing if mega cities and lauded the state government for infrastructural development and improving the ease of doing business in the state.
