The Nasarawa State Police Command says it has arrested another suspect linked to the killing of the former State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress ( APC), Philip Shekwo.
Shekwo was kidnapped from his Kurikyo residence in Lafia on Nov.21, 2021.
The Commissioner of Police,Bola Longe, paraded the suspect on Thursday in Lafia alongside others arrested for various criminal offences across the state.
Longe said that the suspect,a 30- year- old- man was arrested on February 14, from Awe following credible intelligence.
According to him, the sum of N450,000 believed to be ransom collected from a kidnap victim from Taraba State was recovered from the suspect.
He said the suspects and four others were on the police watchlist in connection with the killing of the APC Chairman.
The CP said the arrest brings to four, the number of suspects linked to the crime, adding that the police were closing in on the fifth suspect
Longe also on Thursday, paraded 27 other suspects arrested for various criminal offences including armed robbery, kidnapping and cultism in the state and listed items recovered from them which included seven firearms,32 live amunitions,four vehicles,a motorcycle and N1,050mllion.
He warned criminals to desist as the police will not relent in confronting them and assured the people of the Command’s determination to protect lives and property.
In a similar development, the Police Commissioner has inaugurated Operation Puff Adder 11, to tackle cases of kidnapping and banditry in the state.
The operation, he said comprised of 158 personnel drawn from the Police Mobile Forces and Counter Terrorism units of the command.
He stated that the personnel who are well trained and equiped to tackle all forms of security challenges are to be deployed to five strategic locations in the state.
