Rochas Anayo Okorocha,a senator and former governor of Imo state, was earlier on Sunday, arrested by the police in Owerri, for forcefully entering a seized property belonging to his wife,Nneoma Okorocha.
The multi billion naira Royal Palm estate located along Akachi road Owerri, linked to the wife of the former governor was sealed on Friday, by the government of Imo state.
The Commissioner for Lands,Eyinnaya Onuegbu told newsmen last Friday, that the police had been directed to take over the property until further notice.
The property reportedly acquired by Mrs Okorocha when her husband was governor of the state was allegedly developed with state funds.
The development came a few days after another property belonging to the Okorochas, the Eastern Palm University was recovered by the state government under its recovery agenda.
Okorocha told newsmen at the police station on Sunday, that he returned from an occasion and made his way to the Royal Palm Hotel to find out what was happening when he met hoodlums who attacked his boys and molested him under the watch of the police who then whisked him away to the station.
According to him, confused and in a state of shock,he inquired about whose directive the order to arrest him was coming from and he was shocked to hear that it was from governmentt house.
“I came back from an occasion and proceeded to the Royal Palm Hotel.
” On getting to the Royal Palm Hotel,I saw a lot of thugs, they started molesting and cutting my boys shooting,but the police were there too.And the police did nothing and said nothing.and they started matchetting so I warned my orderly that nobody should shoot, so they rushed me to a room and locked me up.So those boys had teargas and the police also threw teargas.As they were advancing, the police were backing them up.As they were coming they were shooting,so I inquired and they said it was governmentt house police and I asked,Is it the directive of the IG or the directive of the CP? Can the governor actually use governmentt house police to do what he is doing?.
“Then they kept me in a room for sometime. All my boys were injured. Infact right now,my in-law was shot, his leg has been scattered.And he is right now bleeding,I hope he makes it.The situation is very bad.
“Surprisingly,the police put me in a pick up and brought me to police station, and.Iam here now and they have not said anything to me. I asked them what is my offence,? They said conspiracy and public disorder, just something I can’t understand..So they said it was the governor that made a report to them to arrest me.So Iam still in big shock and confused about what is happening here”. Okorocha lamented.
