Nigeriian Senate says it will not hesitate to issue a warrant of arrest to compel the Sole Administrator of the Niger Delta Development Commission ( NDDC), Effiong Akwa,if he failed to appear before it to address allegations of diversion of N6.28billion meant for procurement of Covid-19 palliatives approved by President Muhammadu Buhari for the Niger Delta Region.
The Senate Committee on Ethics Privileges, and Public Petitions had on February 5, 2021, issued a fourth invitation to Akwa asking him to appear on Monday, February 22,2021 for hearing which would hold at the Meeting Room 120,New Senate Building National Assembly Complex,Abuja by 1.p.m.
The invitation by signed by the Clerk of the Committee, Freedom Osola said the Committee on Ethics Privileges and Public Petitions “met on January 26,2021 and February 4th ,2021 but was unable to reach a decision” because of Akwa’s non appearance.”
The letter adds that failure to avail himself of hearing before the commitee for the fourth and last time would result in the issuance of warrant of arrest to compel his appearance.
A group known as Network for Defence of Democracy and Good Governance (NDDGG), led by Sobomabo Jack-Rich had in a petition sent to the Senate in 2020, accused the Pondei-led Interim Management of the NDDC of diverting the money meant for Covid-19 palliatives for the region.
The Petitioner was the Chairman of the NDDC COVID-19 Palliatives Committee.under the IMC which included Akwa, as a member.
