The House of Representatives says less than 50 per cent of primary healthcare facilities in the country lacked adequate human resources and basic medical equipment needed to provide services.
In view of this, the House has called for the inclusion of transformational funds into basoc primary healthcare in the country.
Dr Haruna Mtsheila(APC ,Borno), moved the motion on the floor of the House on Wednesday in Abuja.
Haruna said that the National Primary Health Care Development Agency was to shoulder 70 per cent of healthcare services which requires human resources and basic medical equipment but unfortunately, the manpower and equipment are grossly inadequate to make the primary healthcare facilities functional.
The lawmaker stressed that unless urgent steps were taken, the concept of Universal Health Coverage would be an illusion.
In the light of this, the House urged the Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning to liase with relevant ministries to include a transformational funds in the supplementary budget as Covid-19 vaccine procurement.
