Nobel laurette,Wole Soyinlka has called on Nigerians to rise to the challenge of insecurity in the country by standing together to tackle insecurity head-on.
Soyinlka who was speaking at the launch of a book he authored in Abeokuta titled: Chronicles of the Happiest People on Earth in Abeokuta on Saturday, said since no one knew when abductions of children and other challenges of Insecurity would end, the best would be to take severe actions meaningful and collective as those in charge of protecting lives have failed .
According to him, the situation has reached a point where in any state where a child is kidnapped should shut down with sympathy actions from other states until the situation is resolved.
” The abduction of our children, when will it’s end? How will it end? I don’t think anyone of us can tell. But it is important that we continue to stress and to remind ourselves, not only that these are abnormal times,it seems to be times of choking responsibilities in very key areas.
“We cannot commit ourselves,we just cannot continue in this fashion.Something drastic, meaningful has to take place And it has to be collective. This is not longer the responsibility of those at the top,who supposed to be in charge of security, in charge of governance,They’ve clearly failed. the populace
‘They’ve failed us, It’s no point trying to reason it’s out, to find an excuse,to lay blame, the important thing is that we are very close to accepting a culture of unacceptable.I think we are reaching the point where in any state where any child is kidnapped, that state should shut down completely and other states in sympathy,in solidarity, should at least shut down some of their activities.
“We shouldn’t wait for an enemy, faceless, airborne, unpredictable enemy like Covid to make us shut down to say in protest and as a statement of the unacceptable,we are shutting ourselves down until this situation is resolved.”
