
The Federal Government has approved the establishment of dedicated Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) Swap Centres across all local government areas in the country.
The Ministerial Task Force on National Identification Number (NIN- SIM) registration disclosed this on Wednesday, in Abuja at its 4th review meeting.
The meeting presided over by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Patami,tasked the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) which was working with NIMC and MNOS, to urgently come up with a framework for the establishment of the centres in the 774 LGAS of the country.
A statement jointly signed by Director, Public Affairs,NCC,Dr Ikechukwu Adinde and Head Corporate Communications,Nigeria Identity Management Commission NIMC quoted the Minister as saying that the framework for the establishment must begin with critical and feasible locations.
The statement said the meeting approved the extension of tenure for National Identity Number NIN Registration by MNOs adding that the government also extended the tenure of NIN Enrollment Agent from 1 to 5 years in consideration of their satisfactory performance, subject to continuos monitoring while the technical commitee was mandated to complete the development of a new SIM issuance strategy that cannot be compromised.
