Armed men suspected to be kidnappers have kidnapped several travellers in Ekiti state, killing one person while whisking away others to unknown destination.
The incident which is the seventh in recent times in the state, recorded casualties in most cases.
The victims of the latest attack were said to be ambushed late Saturday evening at a location between Ikere- Ekiti, headquarters of Ikere Local Government Area of Ekiti State and Iju,a boundary town in Ondo State.
It was gathered that the armed men appeared from corners of the bush and stopped their vehicle.
The Ekiti state Police Command confirmed the incident to newsmen on Sunday saying one person lost to the attack.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the state, Sunday Abutu disclosed that a passenger Sharon Mini Bus involved was coming from Ondo State and heading to Ekiti when the incident happened.
According to him, the Command had already launched a discreet Investigation and serious manhunt to unmask the gunmen.
He said the driver of the bus managed to escape from the scene with the vehicle and ran to Ilupeju- Ikere Divisional Police Headquarters in Ekiti State to report the incident.”but in the process,one of the passengers was unfortunately hit by a bullet and was rushed to the General Hospital, Ikere- Ekiti where he later died.”
The PPRO said the state Police Commissioner, had “implored everyone in the state not to panic as the Command shall join force with Ondo State Police Command to ensure that the perpetrators are made to face the full wrath of the law”
He urged people with useful information that could lead to the arrest of the gunmen to report at the nearest police station.
