The Peoples Democratic Party! PDP) has expressed shock over the attempted assassination of Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom by suspected bandits on Saturday.
In a communique released through its spokesman,Kola Ologbonidiyan, the party said it is surprised that the assailants trailed the governor and opened fire on him and his aides along Makurdi/ Gboko road in an attack that points towards the direction of killing the governor.
The party said it” is worried that the brazen attempt on Governor Ortom’s life is coming on the heels of his outspokenness in exposing those allegedly behind the incessant attacks of communities in the state and demanding that the Federal Government live up to its responsibility on the protection of life and property in the state.”
The PDP expressed fear for the life of Ortom and urged Nigeriars to hold the ruling All Progressives Congress APC responsible for its failure to take a decisive step to check the escalated insecurity and brazen attacks on innocent Nigerians.
It called on the governor not to be discouraged by the attack but to remain courageous and alert in the task of leading the people of the state.
